A little back story on how Mi-chel Custom Handbags began.
In June 2020, I suffered the worst tragedy a mom could ever imagine. My 25-year-old son, Jesse, who suffered from Anxiety and Depression, took his own life. I wanted and needed to find a way to continue his legacy.
Jesse would purchase designer handbags for me as gifts, so I thought how better to honor him than by creating a handbag using his blue jeans and red flannel shirt. This way he goes everywhere I go; and he is always with me. When out shopping, people would comment on my bag and ask where I got it. My response would also be “I designed it.” The next question was “do you have a website; do you sell them”?
My husband encouraged me to start designing handbags to begin the healing process of losing Jesse and create something to keep his memory alive.
And so it began, choosing the right size recycled jeans, finding sturdy handles, and letting my creative mind choose the fabric and pins.
No two bags are alike, they are all one of a kind.
I was honored when asked to be an Artisan at the Schoharie Mercantile and display my one-of-a-kind handbags.
Mental Illness is real with all generations - if you are or know someone who is struggling, please seek help at American Foundation for Suicide Prevention - call or text 988 or text TALK to 741741.
My family and friends Walk to fight suicide each Fall and in the past three years we have raised over $5,000.00.
I know Jesse is looking down on me, with each handbag I design and sell.
Thank you for taking the time to read my story.
