Glen Wiegand grew up in Wisconsin and earned a BS in Art and Art History from the University of Wisconsin in Madison. After working as a production potter for a few years, he started his own business called Happy Dogs Ceramics. He loves playful characters, bright colors, and folk art designs, and he started his business creating dog sculptures.
Glen has now transitioned into adding functional artistic tableware, still focusing on colorful, whimsical designs.
Glen met Millie at an art gallery in Wisconsin. She is originally from Lawyersville, NY and graduated from Cobleskill High School before leaving Schoharie County for further education and work. Glen and Millie married in Wisconsin and then moved to several cities before deciding to retire in Schoharie County in 2014.
We live on a 75-acre farm on Clove Road and Glen is using the old hops house as a studio. All pottery is hand thrown on a potter's wheel using earthenware clay. Sculptures are either extruded through tubes or sculpted with the use of a slab roller. Lead free underglazes are applied to the bisque ware and then a clear glaze is applied before the final firing. We hope you enjoy Happy Dogs Ceramics and that they make you smile.
